Our weekly selection of
hockey moves that leave us scratching our heads. Started back in 2007, HotW was
an institution around these parts or years. As research time became more
scarce, we let it lapse, but by the grace of a Gordie Hull Hat Trick, it's
back!
We don't recommend that any of these feats be attempted at home,
nor do we suggest that you you these fine folks as role models for your
children.

Domink Hasek - Spartak Moscow
(KHL)
Now playing for Spartak Moscow of the KHL, the former NHL
goaltender may have had a sip or two too many of that Russian Vodka before
being quoted by the New York Times. Never one to mince words (or make a whole
lot of sense), Hasek gave his views on the KHL in comparison to the NHL.
"There are four teams here which you can compare to the NHL However,
it's a different hockey," Hasek said. "I think if the NHL would play here
against Ufa, Kazan, Omsk, Yaroslavl, it would be very equal. And these best
Russian teams, they would maybe be even better here, on this kind of ice. But
they would not have a chance if they come to the NHL, because it's different
ice, a different level of hockey."
Maybe he meant to say that if the
New York Islanders showed up to play a game in Russia, things might be
balanced. That's assuming Rick DiPietro is still out with a collapsed face.
This coming from a 46-year old goaltender, who is finally peaking. He
has seven shutouts this season, which should tell you something about the
quality of hockey in the KHL.
It'd be a warm day in Minsk before the
KHL holds a candle to the NHL.
