Our weekly selection of
hockey moves that leave us scratching our heads. Started back in 2007, HotW was
an institution around these parts or years. As research time became more
scarce, we let it lapse, but by the grace of a Gordie Hull Hat Trick, it's
back!
We don't recommend that any of these feats be attempted at home,
nor do we suggest that you you these fine folks as role models for your
children.

NHL Radar Gun Guy
One of
the best parts of teh NHL All Star Weekend is the Fastest Shot competition held
during the Skills Competition. The competition is pretty basic. Line for a slap
shot and let someone behind the net measure the speed of the shot.
Seems
basic enough. Through in the NHL, and nothing seems to be easy. Forget the fact
that the league couldn't figure out a way to actually show the speeds in real
time on the screen (they needed to pan to the speed gun reading in order to
show the television audience the reading, which took an extra 5-10 seconds per
shooter), but to make matters worse, they couldn't seem to be able to find a
speed gun that actually worked.
To make matters worse, the speed gun
failed during the FINALS of the competition.
To make matters even worse, Zdeno Chara
set an NHL record on his final shot...but did he beat the record that Shea
Webber may have set on the three shots that weren't recorded because the gun
took a nap? Guess we'll never know.
