Klingberg & Nedeljkovic lead SJ in Carolina
Three Shark skaters have multi-point games in 4-1 win
12/7/2025 - By Mike Lee

The Sharks made a stop in Raleigh, North Carolina on Sunday to take on the Carolina Hurricanes at Lenovo Center in an attempt to avenge their tough 5-1 loss on October 14th. Carolina has been a house of horrors for San Jose, but the newly invigorated Sharks lineup shocked the Eastern Conference's 2nd ranked team 4-1.

San Jose scored in all three periods and leaned on Alex Nedeljkovic's 28 saves to snap their 2-game losing streak. It was an all around victory, with contributions from the offense, defense, special teams and goaltending.

Carolina played on Saturday night, which provided San Jose with an additional advantage.

The Sharks wasted no time getting on the board. Collin Graf tipped a Macklin Celebrini feed past Carolina goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov just 33 seconds into the game. Celebrini spotted his new linemate cutting toward the right post, when he sent a pass to a perfect spot out front for Graf to redirect. Graf was moved to the top line with Celebrini and Will Smith for the first time this season. It was his 5th goal of the season.

The Hurricanes evened things up at 13:18 after Macklin Celebrini was sent off for holding Sebastian Aho. Jordan Staal tipped a Shayne Gostisbehere shot past Nedeljkovic for his 8th goal of the season. It looked as if Staal's stick blade was above his shoulders but the Sharks elected not to challenge to score.

A suspect holding call on Mario Ferraro put the Hurricanes on the power play late in the period, which carried over into the start of the 2nd period. The Sharks would kill off the penalty to keep the game tied.

Much maligned defenseman John Klingberg put the sharks back on top 7:54 into the 2nd period after he slid to the slot and one-timed a Celebrini feed past Kochetkov for his 4th goal of the season.

Celebrini setup a power play chance at 14:51 by gathering a loose puck and driving hard tot he net. Jackson Blake was sent off for tripping Celebrini and taking a skate to the face for good measure.

Alex Wennberg converted on the ensuing power play by punching home a put-back chance from the right side after William Eklund bounced a shot off Kochetkov. The goal was Wennberg's 6th of the season. Klingberg was credited with the secondary assist to give him a 2-point night.

Ty Dellandrea missed on a golden opportunity 2 minutes later, but he couldn't get a puck centered on Kotchetkov.

San Jose went into protect their 2-goal lead to start the 3rd period. Things got a little dicey when Jeff Skinner was sent off for cross checking at 5:16 of the frame. San Jose's penalty killers came up big, snuffing out the chance which could have put the Sharks in a precarious position had Carolina scored.

The Hurricanes turned up the heat the final 10 minutes. They would throw 16 shots on Nedeljkovic in the period, but the netminder came up big. Several of those shots were of the quality variety and in tight.

Aho had the puck and a clear look at the net from 12 feet out, but he lost an edge midway through the period. He would get a shot off, but the puck hit Nedeljkovic in the right shoulder before flipping up into the air. Logan Stankoven tried to get to it as it came back to earth but Mario Ferrraro swatted it out of the air clear of the net.

Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind'Amour pulled Kochetkov with 1:30 to play, but his 6 skaters couldn't solve Nedeljkovic.

Alex Wennberg chased down a puck in the neutral zone an carried it into the Hurricanes zone before getting hauled down, but was able to slide it to his right where Celebrini was there to stuff it into the empty net to cap the game's scoring.

Game Notes:

* By virtue of their participation in Sunday's game, William Eklund played in his 200th NHL game and Macklin Celebrini in his 100th.

* From the metrics deep dive department, Collin Graf's 1st period goal was the 3rd quickest by an undrafted Sharks player in franchise history.

* San Jose bucked the trend of trailing in the faceoff circle. San Jose won 32 of 53 draws for a 51% conversion rate.

* Celebrini (1 goal, 2 assists), John Klingberg (1 goal, 1 assist) and Alex Wennberg (1 goal, 1 assist) all had multi-point nights.

* The win snapped an 8-game losing streak to Carolina. The last time San Jose beat Carolina was on November 22, 2021. First win in Carolina since February of 2018.
