LGS NHL Power Rankings
for games thru 1/1/23
/2/2023 - By LGS Staff
The staff writers at LetsGoSharks.com submit their league rankings each week, and we average submissions for each team. Here are the LGS NHL Power Rankings for this week:

Rank Rank Last Week Team Record Last 10 The Skinny
1 28-4-4 7-0-3 Like Santa’s sleigh, on cruise control
3 25-6-6 10-0-0 11 game win streak speaks for itself. Brent Burns chose wisely
2 23-8-6 7-3-0 Lots of rumors of trades in Toronto, but the Leafs keep winning
3 23-11-1 8-2-0 11-3 for December, why did Detroit give them trouble?
7 23-9-6 7-2-1 How did the Stars get young and fast all of a sudden?
9 25-12-2 5-4-1 They’re good but that edge at home from the first couple years is missing
12 21-13-5 8-1-1 Caps look inspired after Ovi passed Gordie Howe’s 802
5 20-12-6 7-2-1 Skating on cruise control. Rags need to turn it on before this season of promise gets away from them.
10 21-13-2 8-2-0 That Mason Shaw could be the NHL's suspension leader for years to come, with the way he plays.
13 21-13-6 6-2-2 The Kings make a move after a solid December.
8 19-11-6 5-3-2 The Pens are mired in a mediocre couple of weeks.
11 23-13-1 5-5-0 A .500 record over their last 10 seems the Jets slip a spot.
17 18-15-2 7-2-1 For the first time in a long while, it’s January and the Sabres are still worth watching.
16 19-13-3 6-3-1 Don't look now, but the Avalanche are slowly starting to put it together.
6 23-11-3 2-6-2 Never mind the tough schedule, the “Fire Lindy” folks are restless after a 3-10 December
20 18-13-7 5-2-3 The January schedule should help them, but they still need to score more goals against teams not called “Sharks”
18 21-15-2 4-4-2 Mid-pack team, playing like a mid-pack team.
14 19-12-4 4-5-1 The hot start in December cooled off considerably.
15 20-16-2 4-4-2 Losses to Vancouver, Calgary and Winnipeg not really building any confidence in this squad.
22 17-17-3 5-2-3 Still not proving to anyone that they are a real Stanley Cup contender this season.
21 17-17-3 6-3-1 The win one, lose one ups and downs had us thinking they might start to show signs of life. That may have been premature.
24 16-12-7 3-5-2 The wings move up slightly after wins against Tampa, Pitssburgh and Ottawa.
26 15-14-6 3-3-4 One again off again isn't going to help this team get out of the bottom third.
23 16-17-3 5-5-0 No consistency with the Canucks, even though they may be better than most of the bottom feeders in teh league.
19 16-18-4 3-7-0 The Panthers lost 4 out of their last 5 games to close out the year, so they slip 6 spots.
27 13-17-7 4-4-2 The Flyers came to San Jose with an 0-7 record in overtime games. They left with a 1-7 record. Seems like the Sharks are always good for breaking other teams' streaks of this nature.
25 15-19-3 2-7-1 Positioned nicely to add Connor Bedard to a roster briming with young talent.
29 13-17-5 5-4-1 The Coyotes win 3 of their last 4 in the final week of the year, but they need to show more consistency if anyone is going to take them seriously.
28 12-20-7 4-4-2 Bad efforts at home are no way to sell either tickets or horrible reverse retro jerseys
30 11-22-2 3-7-0 Hope Johhny Hockey is enjoying that money, because winning isn't part of the deal.
31 10-23-4 3-6-1 The only question that remains for the Ducks this season is if they're going to make a real run at Bedard.
32 8-24-4 1-9-0 Remember when the Blackhawks won 3 Cups not too long ago?
