Sharks add Galiardi &
Winnik SJ send McGinn and two prospects to
Colorado
The Sharks acquired two players from the Colorado
Avalanche on Monday's NHL Trade Deadline. San Jose picked up forwards T.J.
Galiardi and Daniel Winnik, along with a 7th round draft pick, in exchange for
Jamie McGinn and prospects Mike Connolly and Michael Sgarbossa.
The
24-year old Galiardi has 171 NHL games under his belt, scoring 33 goals and 39
assists. The winger immediately adds some speed to the Sharks 2nd or 3rd line.
He was a 2nd round draft pick in 2007 (55th overall) for Colorado. The Calgary
native will be a restricted free agent this summer.
Winnik is a 5th
year center that will help bolster the Sharks penalty kill. The Toronto native
has played in 345 NHL games for both Colorado and Phoenix, who drafted him in
the 9th round in 2004. He fancies himself as a defensive specialist and will
most likely play as a 4th liner.
McGinn was in the middle of his first season as a
regular roster player for the Sharks, scoring a career high 12 goals through
the first 61 games of the season. San Jose loses McGinn's grit, which they are
hoping will be replaced by Winnik.
